Retaining walls across the Inner West.

The Inner West - Newtown, Marrickville, Balmain, Burwood, Strathfield - is mostly flat compared with the rest of Sydney, with retaining work concentrated on lots that step down to laneways or where landscape design calls for terraced gardens. Concrete block walls with rendered or painted finishes that match the Victorian and Federation brickwork are typical. Conservation areas cover much of the suburb cluster, so styling and material decisions are constrained, but the shorter wall heights mean engineering is less universal than the harbourside or coastal suburbs.
